From January 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7

All good things must come to an end, even Windows 7. After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. But you can keep the good times rolling by moving to Windows 10 Pro.

Windows 10 is familiar and easy to use, with lots of similarities to Windows 7 including the Start menu. It starts up and resumes fast and has more built-in security to help keep you safe. It is also designed to work with software and hardware you already have. The new features respond to modern business needs with a strong focus on enhanced security capabilities and a focus on flexibility for the end users.

Here are some of the new key features of Windows 10 Pro:

BitLocker

With new GDPR legislation introduced in May of this year, Data protection is a concern for businesses across any sector. Microsoft’s encryptions software has been developed and updated and has been built into Windows 10. BitLocker Drive Encryption is a data protection feature that integrates with the operating system and addresses the threats of data theft or exposure from lost, stolen, or inappropriately decommissioned computers. BitLocker has offered the option to encrypt the Windows boot drive and other fixed drives within the system, as well as USB keys and external drives.

If a drive is encrypted, BitLocker will encrypt other files that are added to it. Locking down your data isn’t 100% foolproof, however, it is a great measure to take to securing your data and ensuring peace of mind.

Remote Desktop Connection

Windows 10 Pro devices can initiate Remove Desk Connections making it easy to connect from one PC or device to another to retrieve files or provide PC support. The major benefits of this are it allows users to work remotely or from home with ease.

There are several other features in Windows 10 Pro which are targeted at modern business needs. Here is a quick summary of each and how they can benefit your business:

Domain Join

Windows 10 Pro supports joining a domain, allowing PC’s to be added to a corporate network.

Group policy management

This allows an IT admin to control which PCs do what. Likewise, if your business needs specialized enterprise apps, an admin can lock down the Windows Store to make sure employees get those, and nothing else.

Client Hyper V running on Windows 10 Pro

Virtualization creates a secure operating environment within your PC that allows you to run different operating systems, including Linux, future builds of Windows 10, and even older versions of Windows.

How to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

The minimum system requirements are surprisingly low for Window’s 10 Pro. To upgrade your device requires a minimum of a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of hard drive space.
